Today’s hair forecast: Damp, static, chance of heavy frizz...in other words, catastrophic.
While your hair may not be your priority when juggling baby, bags and umbrella, there are some simple frizz-fighting tricks that you can work into your morning routine to help tame those tresses.
At a glance
- Keep your hair hydrated to keep frizz at bay
- Use a frizz fighting products like serum
- Invest in a good brush to leave your hair sleek and shiny
Hydrate your Hair
Frizz occurs when the hair is dehydrated,” explains hairdresser extraordinaire, Andrew Barton. "If there is not enough moisture in the hair shaft when it is exposed to damp or humid conditions, the excess moisture gets absorbed and causes the hair to expand."
In other words, choose super duper hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and Condition, are packed with orchid and coconut extract and get the moisture thumbs up from us.
Choose a smart serum
“Serum and combating frizz go hand in hand,” says celebrity hairdresser, Inanch. “Serums contain lots of natural oils that will stop your hair from getting parched and create a protective coating around the hair so that it can’t get any bigger.”
Dry and thick hair can’t get enough of serum; they will drink it up. Use it on damp or dry hair and apply from the crown to the tips. Unless you have fine hair in which case avoid applying at the roots. Lank after all, is not a good look either. We’ve done the serum test and we recommend John Frieda Frizz Ease Thermal Protection Formula Hair Serum.
Brush and blow-dry
We know, we know – you have 5 minutes to dry your hair in the morning. But trust us when we say that using a brush when you blow-dry is the key to achieving glossy locks.
Science lesson: the bristles of the brush help direct the hair cuticles to flow and point in the same direction leaving your hair sleeker, and, this is why you can’t stop touching your hair when you leave the salon.
Choose a barrel brush for volume at the roots, a paddle brush for a sleek look, or the ultimate multi-tasking hairbrush of all time, a Mason Pearson.
Spray no to humidity
Humidity is hair’s worst enemy. If frizz attacks, you can of course, reach for your serum again and apply a very small amount over any fly-aways, but frizz salvation can also be found in a humidity spray.
V05 Weather Resistant Hairspray, will keep your style in place while shielding your hair from rain and humidity. It’s your hair’s own umbrella.
