Amber Le Bon’s Baby Arrival
Emotional birth story and first moments
The 35-year-old model, daughter of Duran Duran’s lead singer Simon Le Bon and his wife Yasmin, recently gave birth to a baby boy with her boyfriend, Ben Mercer. The couple privately celebrated the arrival of their son, Sasha Echo Le Bon Mercer, on January 30.
Amber has now shared details about her intense labour experience, revealing in a recent interview that her son was delivered using forceps. She described the birth as ‘hairy’ and recounted the emotional moments of the delivery.
Spending 40 hours in labour at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, Amber was supported by both Ben and her mother throughout the process. Sasha weighed 7lbs 6oz at birth. She praised Ben for being ‘brilliant’ during the delivery, which was set to the dramatic backdrop of a thunderstorm soundtrack playing on speakers.
Amber recalled how Ben cut the umbilical cord before their ‘hot little human’ was placed on her chest. Overwhelmed with emotion, she was momentarily in shock before bursting into tears of joy.
During her third trimester, Amber joined her father on Duran Duran’s U.S. tour. Even before birth, Sasha seemed to have an affinity for his grandfather’s music, often kicking along to the band's classic hits. Amber playfully nicknamed her baby bump ‘Sparkles’ due to the dazzling outfits she wore on tour.
She first announced her pregnancy on November 7 through a series of heartfelt Instagram posts, where she lovingly cradled her growing bump. Alongside the photos, she teased fans with the caption: "[Swipe to the end for a big surprise] My favourite look whilst I was on the @duranduran tour. Someone coming soon…"
Amber had kept her relationship private until the birth announcement confirmed her partner as TikTok creator and former professional rugby player Ben Mercer.
Ben, who previously played professional rugby, later transitioned into writing and has gained a significant social media following for his book-related content. He has authored four books, with his debut becoming an Amazon No.1 bestseller and earning a nomination for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year 2020.
