Top 100 boys names 474Oliver continues to top the charts as the number 1 name chosen for boys. Noah has nudged 2 places up into position 2 and George is back at number 3 after slipping slightly the previous year proving that the nation loves its little prince. However, the public voted with the baby name choices as Harry fell from favour by 8 places to reside at number 10 and Charlie also dropped from third in line in the Top 100 to 9th place.

Top 10 newcomers, Arthur and Theo bounded into position 4 and 7 and Freddie followed last year’s debut in the Top 10 and moving up to 5th place followed by Leo up 2 places as the UK’s sixth most popular boys’ name. 

Highest climbing boys names this year

In the Top 20, the name Tommy, undoubtably continues to influenced by the success of the TV show Peaky Blinders as it stormed up the charts and now resides at position 15 and joined to by Finley at 18 – possibly in tribute to Mr Shelby’s younger brother Finn. But, they want to watch out, as hot on their heals and soon set for a Top 20 spot this year sees Teddy (up 8 places), Arlo (up 18), Theodore (up 23) and Roman (also up 23 places).

Set to shake up the Top 40 and on course to soar in popularity next year we see the name Grayson up 33 places to position 54, Ezra up 21 places (position 55) along with Jude up 20 places to position 49 and Ronnie up 19 places to 52.

Breaking in to the Top 100 for the first time this year sees Hudson in at position 70,  Chester at 82, joined by Jesse in at 76 and also Austin up 33 places to position 85 - together with Milo up a massive 34 places to claim a new Top 100 entry at position 89 and a victorious leap for Vinnie in at 98 having climbed 40 places in the last year.

Baby boys’ names on the decline    

Falling from favour in the nation’s Top 20 favourite names Joshua, Logan and Ethan now reside in turn at positions 25, 29 and 33. Joined by Riley and Joseph who each dropped out of the Top 40 to positions 56 (was ranked 26th in 2019) and 58 (was 35th) this year.

Other, once considered contemporary names, are also on a decline. These include Harvey down 26 places to position 74 and jaw dropping drops for Jayden down 48 places to position 84 and Jake at 86.

Traditional names set to lose their place in to Top 100 include Luke now at position 93 and the once much-loved boy’s moniker Matthew which is just holding on at 100.
