The top 100 girls names of 2017

Our top 100 list of baby names for girls is out and shows some interesting trends emerging.

Year on year there’s no change in the Top 5 girls’ names. But, Sophia looks set to fall out of the Top 10 having dropped 4 places to number 10 and instead, Isabella is hot on her heels - up 7 places to 8th in the Top 10. Whilst Grace had fallen from favour in recent years, she’s also back in the Top 10 and now at number 7.

Highest climbers

Ivy, (up 15 places), is the ‘outsider’ name that’s shot into the Top 20 with Willow up 10 places to number 23 and Harper continuing to climb the ranks in at 28. 

Paying the price of their newfound popularity is the name ‘Jessica’ (down 7 places to 16).  

The stand-out highest climbers so far in 2017 include Aurora (up 29 places), Luna (up 27 places), Orla (up 20 places), and Victoria (up 18 places) all showing a noticeable trend of names ending in ‘a’.

On the decline

Names that are becoming less popular in 2017 include Brooke (down 20 places), Rose (down 14 places) and Esme (down 13 places). These once common and fashionable names are falling from favour with UK parents this year.
